Our Predictions for 2022’s Most Popular Colors

There was a crispness in the air this morning and that first sign of cooler weather reminded us that we only have about two months left of exterior painting season!  Each season seems to fly by faster and faster but we’re so excited for the new trends to come.  We’ve already seen a taste of these new trends with fashion and furniture so we’re going to take a shot at predicting which colors will be all the rage in 2022.

Ruby Shade SW 6572

Ruby Shade

2022 color trends have been marked by bright, bold, saturated colors.  This is quite the departure from some of the more earth tones 2021 saw but we love these fun options.  Fuschia pink has been seen everywhere but will it make it into paint trends?  A bold color can be difficult to pull off, especially if it doesn’t blend with your current aesthetic.  For full saturation try something like Ruby Shade SW 6572.  This has a slight coolness to it with a touch of gray to help tone down the vibrancy of the color.  Ruby Shade would be a great option for an accent color or a funky bathroom.  Tone this color down and make it more wall-friendly by going with a lighter shade such as Rose Embroidery SW 6297.  This color keeps the essence of the original inspiration but makes it a little more every day.

At Ease Soldier SW 9127

At Ease Soldier

This is by far the most neutral color which makes it the easiest to bring into your home.  2021 brought us a lot of green options and it appears that olive will be holding strong for the new year.  Green can be very intense and unflattering but olive is a universally flattering color so we’re thrilled to see it here.  We chose to go with At Ease Soldier SW 9127 from Sherwin Williams because it’s versatile and warm.  Here you can really play around though and go lighter or darker with your olive tones or more or less green.  This versatility makes this a fantastic color option for both the exterior and interior of your home.

Peace Yellow SW 2857

Peace Yellow

Yellow has been huge for the exterior of homes this year and we love this light buttery option.  Yellow is one of those colors that can go too bright very quickly so it’s always a balance to keep things palatable while still achieving that punch of color.  Peace Yellow SW 2857 checks all of the boxes and it’s uniquely a yellow that is also available in Sherwin Williams top-performing exterior products.  Since yellow has such a tendency to fade quickly we highly recommend you choose a top-quality paint if you’re using it on your exterior.  For more information about the challenges and solutions with yellow check out this great article

Saffron Thread SW 6663

We weren’t lying when we said bold colors would be everywhere in 2022.  This marigold orange-yellow is supersaturated and gives a fun punch of color.  Depending on your tolerance for fun colors you could use this color in an entire room and keep it limited to a fun accent design like these arches or a bathroom.  This color is energizing and deliciously juicy.  Saffron Thread SW 6663 is sure to make a statement and should feel warm and welcoming, especially in a well-lit space.  This also pairs well with a punch of blue or you can showcase the color by contrasting it with sharp black and white elements.

Adrift SW 7608

2022 seems to be bringing with it a lot of fun and playful colors but if that’s not your vibe then this might be right up your alley.  Adrift SW 7608 is a calming, serene blue that has just a touch of gray in it.  The gray helps tone down the color so it doesn’t feel as bright and saturated as some of the others we mentioned.  That being said, this is a true blue so it will bring a fair amount of life to your space.  We love this for an office or bedroom to help keep things relaxed and airy.

Top Paint Colors for 2022

What do you think about the transition to these new, bold colors?  Are you ready to let go of your grays and repaint with something that’s sure to make a statement?  These colors may not be for everyone but remember, you can always go lighter or darker to find the right shade to suit your tastes.  If these colors feel too overwhelming, try looking for similar colors that have more of a gray undertone or keep your paint neutral and bring in these trends with your decorations and accessories. We can’t wait to see the new collections release for next year so stay tuned for more reviews and color predictions!
